Short Bio

I'm an Associate Professor of Economic and Political Geography at the University of Catania (Italy) and an Associate Research Director at the Fondation Maison Sciences de l'Homme in Paris since 2021.

I'm currently the Scientific Coordinator of the local unit for the project funded by the Italian Ministry of Research PRIN 2022,“PULP – Place-based Unfolding, Localities and Participation in NRRPs” ; Principal Investigator of the project "RISE - Urban Regeneration, Infrastructure Reconversion, and Social Equity” funded by the PIA.CE.RI research program of the University of Catania; and co-coordinator of the GeoUrban working group of the Italian Geographers Association. Since May 2025, I am an Associate Visiting Researcher at the CURDS Centre for Urban and Regional Development Studies at Newcastle University.

My main research interests span urban geography (gentrification, urban regeneration); tourism geography (touristification/overtourism); and digital geography (smart cities, social media territorial imageries), especially explored through qualitative, visual, and creative methods.

Recently, I have focused my interests on left-behind and marginal territories, with particular attention to Italian inner areas.

I am also a freelance journalist, enrolled in the Italian National Register of Journalists since 2010, and a regional Trustee of the Italian Geographical Society.

In 2021, I co-founded a collaborative platform of advocacy for gender equity in social sciences, We-WISER Women in Social Science for Equity in Research.
